Following last month’s conversation with Oshala Farm founder-owners Elise and Jeff Higley, we’re going to talk this month with Nate Brennan. Nate has just taken on a new position with Oshala to spearhead the creation of the Oshala Farming Collaborative. Its mission is to foster and deepen the connection between farmers. We’ll chat about how his long tenure at Pacific Botanicals (PacBot) under the tutelage of industry pioneer Mark Wheeler prepared him for his new role. How, as the purchasing and sales manager at PacBot, he was at the nexus of a business sourcing close to 300 different herbal products from farms of differing scales, as well as wildcrafters. One of his notable mentors, CEO Toni Evans, coached him and his colleagues to ‘hold love in your heart’. Nate is the embodiment of that love. For Nate stewardship is leadership through trust – and he says that ‘trust is so imperative, and something I still see consistently in this industry, even when I see it less and less in the world at large’.
In this upcoming conversation we talk about our shared values of love and trust and how these are the true foundation for any mission-driven business.
